Weybridge Old Folks Club for Elderly at Weybridge Hall

About Weybridge Old Folks Club
How The Club Started
If it had not been for a lady called Erica Thorman, the Weybridge Old Folks Club would not exist. At the end of World War II she recognised a need for companionship among the older people in Weybridge, and started a tea club.
Mrs Thorman was a truly community-minded person and devoted time and money to providing care for the elderly.
In addition to her tea club, she started the original Meals on Wheels service in Weybridge, and bought a house where accommodation and nursing care were provided for people close to their homes and friends.
She also left money in her Will to endow the Weybridge Old Folks Club, as the tea club had become.

When The Club Meets
The Club meets on most Thursday afternoons - not Maundy Thursday and not during August - from 2pm to 4pm in Weybridge Hall, unless an outing has been arranged.

Special Tea Parties & Lunches
Every year there are special tea parties for the Over 90s, at Easter and at Christmas and a Christmas Lunch is held in a local hotel.
Fish & Chip Lunches are also provided a couple of times a year.

Churches Together Volunteers
Churches Together in Weybridge take it in turns to provide volunteers to help in the kitchen.

Outings
Outings have been organised to Brighton, Worthing and Eastbourne, to garden centres and occasional mystery tours.

Talks & Entertainment
Guest speakers are invited, there are quizzes and musical entertainment and the children of local school choirs have performed in concerts for club members.

Membership & Prices
The current annual subscription is £5 and the cost of the weekly teas is £1.
Originally membership was restricted to those over 60 who lived within the parish boundary, but the catchment area has recently been expanded to cover anyone over 60 who lives in the KT13, KT12, KT14, KT15 and KT16 postcode areas.
Where else can you get such a bargain?
