Weybridge Memories Of David Lloyd
"I lived in Castle View Road
from the time I was born in 1942
until 1966 when I moved away and
married. My mother was one of eleven
children born in Baker Street at
what was then Shank's Garage.
My father who came originally
from north Wales went to work for
Moores Garage probably in 1934 and
worked for Vickers Armstrongs at
Brooklands and Wisley from 1937
until he died in 1972.
I went to school locally and at
Brooklands Technical College, I had
a holiday summer job at Rogers's
bicycle and model shop in the High
Street, and later I worked for the
National Provincial Bank also in the
High Street. As a school boy I used
to know the town particularly well
'running errands' for my mother to a
variety of shops.
For leisure I would use the
cricket green (below) at Temple
Market, be taken to the Odeon Cinema
in Queens Road or the 'old' County
Cinema opposite St. James Church in
Church Street (now Weybridge Hall).

In those days the weather was
always sunny and it never rained
except I do recall 1947 and being
taken down to Thames
Street and was
shown the flood water that covered
the road opposite the weir.
It
does seem a long time ago but the
memories are mostly good ones."
