The Prince's Rainforests Project |
|
 |
When it comes to climate change, the destruction of rainforests has
a double whammy effect for everyone. Rainforests absorb a fifth of
the world’s man-made CO2 emissions every year. But tropical
deforestation releases an extra 17% of annual greenhouse gas
emissions. So if the rainforests are destroyed, it’s bad news on
both counts.

Great Ormond Street Hospital opened its doors on 14th February 1852,
with just 10 beds, 2 wards & 20 staff. Today, we have 353 beds, 38
wards & 2,700 staff, treating children from throughout the UK and
world for a wide range of conditions. |
|
|
The charity needs to raise over £50 million each year to fund, the
latest specialist equipment, medical research, redevelopment and
family accommodation. We want to ensure the hospital remains a world
class specialist paediatric hospital, giving new hope to children
suffering from complex and life-threatening conditions
Our philosophy is ‘the child first and always’. We perform 550 child
heart operations, and a comparable number of heart-related
non-surgical interventions, every year, more than any other
children’s hospital in the world. |

ActionAid |

ActionAid is one of the UK’s largest international development
charities, helping poor children, families and communities in over
35 of the world’s poorest countries. Child sponsorship is key to our
work.
If we all sponsored a child in the developing world, imagine the
difference we could make. |
|
|
The world’s poorest people would get a
chance to create a self-reliant future. Poverty could be a thing of
the past. Child sponsorship helps a child’s whole community by
providing access to safe, clean water, healthcare, education and an
escape from a life of hardship and disease. Sponsors will see how
their money is working through regular updates from local
fieldworkers and personal messages from the child they sponsor. |

Sam Beare Hospice
|
|
|
 |
Weybridge Hospital has been in the hearts and minds of the
people of Weybridge since it was built with donations from
local people in 1889. |
|
The Sam Beare Ward was opened in 1977 and provided care for
local cancer patients. In 2006 the Sam Beare Ward became the
Sam Beare Hospice, a registered charity. It is no longer
part of the NHS, but has to be funded by public donations. |
|
It costs £1.5 million per year to fund the ten beds and
community services provided by the Hospice. It shares
management with Woking Hospice and provides specialist
palliative care to the residents of West Elmbridge,
Runnymede and Spelthorne. |
|
In the current economic climate, the money needed to fund
this unit is becoming increasingly difficult to find and
there is a real danger that the local community will lose
this important service. |
|
Please help the charity by participating in or attending
fundraising events or by providing goods for sale or
purchaing from one of the Same Beare shops in Weybridge town
centre |

Sam Beare Hospice |
|
Over the last few years The Sam Beare Hospice has struggled
to raise an ever increasing annual budget, which is now
approaching £2m per annum. |
|
Earlier this year the unit had to close the day care unit
which played an extremely important part in the care and
well being of terminally ill patients and their families,
giving them respite and the much needed support of the
highly trained and caring professional staff. |
|
Through many fund raising events, donations and money raised
in the local Sam Beare Hospice shops the day care service
has been reinstated for one day each week. This is a step in
the right direction but not nearly enough. |

More About The Concert |
|
Following on the success of last year’s concert which raised
over £4,000, the Treble Clef Ladies’ Choir and The Weybridge
Male Voice Choir will be singing again in a concert for the
Sam Beare Hospice on Saturday 17th July at Christ the Prince
of Peace Church in Portmore Way, Weybridge, by courtesy of
Father Tom Treherne who has allowed the
Church to be used for this
local fund raising event free of charge. |
|
Tickets for the concert at £10 each can be obtained by
phoning 01372 200615 or 01252 326514. A retiring bucket
collection will be made to swell the fund and all net
proceeds will be donated to the Hospice. Enjoy an evening of
beautiful music and refreshments while, at the same time,
help to maintain the facilities offered by this local
hospice. |
